Luca Connell will get his first taste of competitive action as a Celtic player- in tonight’s Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Cup tie against Queens Park at Airdrie.

Celtic paid Bolton a development fee for the Irish youth internationalist at the end of June but he has yet to feature in any of the five competitive games this season.

Tommy McIntyre’s Colts side face Queens Park tonight looking to avoid the first round exits that they have suffered in each of the last two seasons away to Annan Athletic.

Connell made a dozen Championship appearances last season with his only game for Celtic so far coming in the home friendly against Rennes.

Having secured the Liverpool-born midfielder on a four year contract there could be an option to send him out on loan to accelerate his development with first team openings at Celtic looking slim.

With the hoops opting out of the 12 team SPFL Reserve League, competitive outings will be a rarity this season with just three matches guaranteed in the Reserve League Cup.
