Neil Lennon isn’t encouraging any offers for Kris Ajer.
Yesterday a little known Italian website claimed that AC Milan had opened talks to take the defender to the San Siro but the only plans for Italy on the horizon involve the group stage of the Champions League.
Ajer only turned 21 in April but is probably the most experienced 21-year-old in world football with FIVE years of top team football spread between Start of Norway, Kilmarnock and a key role in two Celtic treble successes.
As a regular internationalist in the Norway side he has always belied his age with Lennon thrilled by the way that Ajer is developing- at Celtic.
Asked about the value of his defender the hoops boss told the Daily Record:
£15m? I’d value Kris a lot higher than that. He has more to come and I don’t think £15m would cut it, not that we are entertaining any offers.
We would like to extend his contract eventually. We’d gauge that as we go along but there’s been no contact from Milan. Kris is a fantastic player and has pretty much played every minute for me.
We rested him in Estonia but that’s the first football he has missed since February. He has been outstanding and we have high hopes for him. Kris wants to improve, he is a regular international now and you have to remember how young he is at times.
There will be a mistake from time to time, but his consistency has been excellent. Kris has all the strings to his bow – he is a real specimen at 21. He came as a No 10 to Celtic and the spell at Killie did him a lot of good. Physically, he is very good and there is a real maturity about him.
In May 2018 Ajer signed a new contract keeping him with Celtic until 2022, with Jozo Simunovic and Christopher Jullien suspended for today’s match against St Johnstone the young Norwegian will be back into his favoured role at centre-half.
