Neil Lennon is happy to recall Scott Sinclair after transfer options to England failed to materialise.

The goal-scoring winger was left out of the Celtic squad that flew to Romania on Tuesday on the back of summer speculation linking him with Preston, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United.

Derby County were mentioned on Thursday but with the 5pm deadline passing the 30-year-old remained a Celtic player, returning to Lennoxtown on Friday for training.

Updating the situation Lennon told the Daily Record:

There was some interest but nothing materialised, so we carry on as normal. Scotty will be in the squad and he’s a player who can make a big contribution. He has been unfortunate as at the moment he’s finding it difficult to nail down a place because of the form of others.

Celtic activated a 12 month option on Sinclair’s contract at the end of last season which maintains his position as one of the highest paid players at the club.

Brendan Rodgers made the Aston Villa winger his main transfer target in the summer of 2016 and was rewarded with a devastating first season that saw Sinclair sweep the boards with Player of the Year awards.

Although the following two seasons haven’t been at the same level the 30-year-old has been the leading goalscorer during Celtic’s Treble Treble successes.
