Celtic will have to pay out more than £2m if they want to sign Jose Cifuentes.
According to a report in The Sun Manchester City have had a £2m offer for the midfielder knocked back by Universidad Catolica of Ecuador.
The report claims that the players agent is due 40% of the transfer fee which would leave his club with just over £1m for the 20-year-old.
Cifuentes seems to switch between Universidad Catolica and CD America twice a year which further confuses the transfer picture.
After the Champions League win over FK Sarajevo Neil Lennon admitted that the midfielder was on Celtic’s radar but there appears to have been no follow up over the last fortnight.
With the English transfer window closing at 5pm on Thursday any move to City will have to move quickly, after that Celtic may be able to go into negotiations with much less obvious competition for the midfielder.
