Celtic have finally been linked with a move for Birger Meling as they look to find a left-back to replace Kieran Tierney.

Meling first came to attention two years ago when Celtic faced Rosenborg in the qualifying stages of the Champions League and has barely put a foot wrong in the six matches between the two clubs over the last two seasons.

The 24-year-old is under contract until the end of next year and would seem to fit the profile of Celtic transfer targets.

The Sun reports TV2 pundit Jesper Mathisen saying:

Meling has been hunted a bit by Celtic. They sold their left back to Arsenal, so they have a hole there. Meling is a player they know well, because Celtic has played against Rosenborg a couple of times.

Finding the source of the Mathisen quotes proved beyond this website suggesting that some Chinese whispers may have grown arms and legs.

Like Celtic Rosenborg are still involved in Champions League qualifiers and won’t be welcoming talks about one of their players ahead of their home tie with Maribor after winning the first leg 3-1.

If Rosenborg reach the Play Off they will face CKN Dinamo or Croatia or Ferencvaros for a place in the group stage- and hopefully the regular matches with Celtic!
