New twist to Celtic’s Taylor chase

Tuesday’s Daily Record reported Celtic going cold with their interest in Greg Taylor while The Sun had that take on Birger Meling.

Late last night, effectively in their Wednesday edition The Record reports that Sunderland have joined Celtic in the race for Taylor, a race that Celtic apparently dropped out of 24 hours earlier!

According to the Record both clubs have tabled offers to Kilmarnock for Taylor. As ever with Celtic very little is given away about transfers with the only likelihood being that, despite Sunday’s expectations, no new signings will be flying out with Neil Lennon to Sweden today.

Jack Ross at Sunderland will certainly know all about Taylor but it’s difficult to imagine that a League One side in England would be willing to pay £3m to bring in a left-back as they chase promotion after last season’s Wembley Play Off defeat.

The name of Gideon Mensah emerged late yesterday afternoon as another left-back option but it would be quite a stretch to justify signing an untried left-back on a season long loan from RB Salzburg after apparently playing well in a friendly against Real Madrid.

Neil Lennon will give a media conference later today to preview tomorrow’s match against AIK with five days left in the transfer window.
