The prospect of Birger Meling joining Celtic seems to be almost ignored by the Norwegian media.
Ahead of tonight’s Champions League qualifier in which they hold a 3-1 lead from the first leg in Maribor attention seems to be on the imminent departure of Nicklas Bentner- not to Celtic!
After avoiding Celtic Rosenborg have genuine ambitions of reaching the group stage of the Champions League with Dinamo Croatia or Ferencvaros their options in the Play-Off round.
Meling is out of contract in December 2020 but it appears that Rosenborg are as likely to be bringing in new players as selling someone who has been an essential part of their success over the last three seasons.
Norwegian publisher VG reports:
Birger Meling (24) and Samuel Adegbenro (23) are among the RBK players who will be overseen by foreign clubs. A Champions League group game may make both wish to remain, but at the same time, their interest in them may also increase. Rosenborg is also working on its own plans for the transition market. However, it is not certain that the Trunders will bring in a number of new players this summer.
It seems that the extent of the Meling link is quotes picked up by The Sun from Norwegian TV pundit Jespier Mathisen.
Former Liverpool defender Stig Inge Bjornebye is the Sporting Director at Rosenborg, responsible for all transfer activity.
