Celtic rejected a deadline day move from Leicester City to sign Callum McGregor.

From the moment that Brendan Rodgers did an overnight flit from Lennoxtown to dedicate his life to Leicester it has been anticipated that he would return to sign players.

McGregor, Kieran Tierney and James Forrest were expected to be his top targets with a bid for the midfielder reported in the print edition of the Daily Mail according to the BBC website.

Like Tierney, McGregor is on a long term contract at Celtic but when huge sums of money are involved contracts tend to take a back seat.

Leicester spent modestly over the transfer window with the £80m sale of Harry Maguire to Manchester United helping to fund the £95m spent signing Youri Tielemans, Ayoze Perez, Dennis Praet and James Justin.

With no central defenders brought in Filip Benkovic could be given a chance with the young Croatian competing alongside Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu and Wes Morgan for a first team place.
