Kyle Lafferty has claimed that he took a pay cut to move from Hearts to Ibrox a year ago.

Throughout August 2019 the striker was linked with a move to Glasgow, sealing his departure from Tynecastle with the only goal of the game against Celtic.

Soon afterwards he was paraded in a blue shirt and responded with a double away to Motherwell in his SPFL debut followed up by a goal away to Villarreal in the Europa League.

Everything appeared to be going to script until he pulled out of the Nothern Ireland international squad which resulted in him being hit with a five day domestic ban. Later The Sun made allegations about the players private life.

After failing to find any interest in the striker Lafferty had his contract paid up last month with Hearts ruling out a return to Tynecastle before handing Steven Naismith a four year contract.

I’m just scunnered that I’ve had to leave without saying goodbye to those fans who have been great with me,” he told the Daily Record.

When I joined Rangers from Hearts last summer I took a pay cut and planned to finish my career there. Things change at all clubs but it’s been difficult, the manager had his opinion and we will agree to disagree on that.

There were times when I felt I could have done more but getting a few minutes here and there at the end of a game isn’t ideal. If I had been given more opportunities and failed then I’d have said, ‘fair enough, okay.’”

In 2012 Lafferty refused to TUPE over his contract and joined Sion as a free agent. Two years ago he revealed the extent of his gambling addiction after being fined £23,000 by the FA for betting on football matches.
