The SFA are standing by John Beaton despite his controversial performance in the Celtic v Dunfermline Betfred Cup tie.

The Lanarkshire based official failed to give Celtic a penalty when Josh Coley used his arms to block a goal bound shot from Mikey Johnston, awarding a corner instead then indicating that the defender had used his head to clear the ball.

On Saturday Beaton will be clocking up the mileage to Dingwall to take charge of the match between Ross County and Livingston.

Celtic’s match against Hearts will be refereed by Willie Collum who also took charge of the Scottish Cup Final between those clubs in May. Steven McLean will be the fourth official.

Yesterday the SFA briefed their favourite news outlets that their Compliance Officer would be reviewing comments made by Tom Boyd on Celtic TV about Beaton, Celtic claimed that they haven’t been informed of any investigation.
