The most worrying aspect of the Jack Hendry story

The Daily Record has claimed that Celtic priced Jack Hendry out of a loan move to Hull City.

Celtic has come in for criticism from all angles during the transfer window but if the Record claim is true it adds to concerns over the way that the club is handling business.

Everyone at Celtic and the player himself know that it is not going to happen for Hendry at Celtic. He had limited experience before arriving at the club, was played out of position and has yet to make the bench under the new manager.

Salvaging what they can from the remainder of a contract running until 2022 will involve a fair amount of humble pie with an English championship likely to offer far more than anything available from an SPFL club.

The Record reports:

Hendry is surplus to requirements at the champions but had the potential chance to move to Hull City earlier this month but Celtic stalled on the offer and then went back asking for more money. By that time, though, the Tigers had already moved on to another target.

With the English window now closed, the 24-year-old’s options are now limited.

According to that report Kilmarnock and Motherwell are interested in Hendry but neither club is likely to be able to offer much more than £1,000/week.

A foreign club could come up with an offer for Hendry but it’s likely to match the offer from Hull which would also put the player in a far bigger transfer market.

Everyone likes to negotiate the best deal possible but when your cards are restricted it’s often best to get a deal done rather than hold out for something more that may fail tu turn up, as appears to have happened in this case.
