Fraser Forster’s return to Celtic last week and the capture of the 67 jersey prompted speculation that the hoops should follow up with a move for Victor Wanyama.

The midfielder made an awesome impact during two seasons at Celtic that earned him a then record £13m transfer to Southampton in 2013.

Forster took the same route a year later but concerns over Wanyama’s injury record alongside his wage demands look certain to rule out a move to Celtic.

Transfermarkt records the 28-year-old as missing 21 matches last season due to two knee injuries with that factor casting a question mark over his anticipated move to Brugge

According to a report in The Sun the midfielder has been offered a five year deal worth £65,000/week but Belgian TV pundit and former Anderlecht manager Johan Boskamp has highlighted the risk involved.

He has a great career and was an important player for Spurs but then he got a serious knee injury. I’d want to check his knee was fine. For a Belgian club to be paying that amount of money for a player with his age and his injury record, it’s a risk but if he is fully fit, then he is obviously a great signing.

Wanyama has two years left on his Spurs contract but is no longer in the first team plans of Mauricio Pochettino.
