Neil Lennon has explained that his quotes about bringing in ‘five new players’ was given in jest and taken out of context.

It seems that the hoops boss was speaking to print journalists after the 1-1 draw in Romania soon after it was confirmed that a fee for Kieran Tierney had been agreed.

At lunchtime today Lennon had his usual round of media duties to deal with, the first since the £25m transfer was completed. At 4 minutes and 30 seconds into the broadcast conference he explains the context of the quotes that made headlines.

The context of it was humour, I think that someone has taken that way out of context

Lennon had started his conference today by joking that he’d be spending the Tierney money on new clothes and a new car before he discussed the detail of the club’s record transfer.

Celtic will have additional money to spend, they will be spend a little more but that has already been the case with the fees paid for Odsonne Edouard and Christopher Jullien.

On other matters Hatem Abd Elhamed is an injury doubt for tomorrow’s match at Motherwell, Scott Sinclair is available again and Leicester’s interest in Callum McGregor was described as an approach and not a bid.
