All quiet on the Wanyama front

Despite a mini frenzy Victor Wanyama remains a Spurs player this morning with no genuine sign that he was about to ‘rejoin the band’ with Neil Lennon and Fraser Forster at Celtic.

The midfielder seemed to be returning to Belgium a fortnight ago when Club Brugge appeared to have agreed a five year contract with the player and £13m fee with Spurs but the anticipated announcement never quite arrived.

Forster’s return to Celtic and claiming the number 67 jersey ran in tandem with ‘Wanyama for Brugge’ but despite reaching the Champions League group stage through the Play Off the done deal sign never emerged.

Speculation about a Celtic switch ebbed and flowed as the transfer window entered it’s final hours but at lunchtime yesterday Sky Sports announced that it was a non-starter, at the same time The Standard published:

Victor Wanyama was also expecting to remain at Spurs after a move to Belgium outfit Club Brugge broke down, while no buyers have come forward for transfer-listed right-back Serge Aurier.

The 28-year-old still has two years to run on his Spurs deal with only an injury crisis likely to see him back in the first team picture.

With his personal terms reported to be in the region of £65,000 a week a move to Celtic seems highly unlikely- until the final week of January when two and two starts to get put back together.
