Jozo Simunovic is to undergo surgery on his troublesome knee condition.
The defender has been restricted to one match a week for the majority of his Celtic career and has only once played on a plastic pitch.
This season he has yet to play in a domestic match with the last of his seven European games coming in the 2-0 home win over AIK in the first leg of the Europa League play-off.
Speaking to Celtic TV today Neil Lennon admitted:
Jozo’s in for surgery. He’s going to have a clean-out in the knee, an arthroscopy it’s called.
Kris Ajer and Christopher Jullien have established themselves as Celtic’s first choice defensive partnership but both took knocks during Saturday’s 1-0 win at Hamilton.
Hatem Abd Elhamed is the next central defensive option with Nir Bitton facing a few more weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Since joining Celtic from Dinamo Zagreb in September 2015 Simunovic has only started 64 SPFL matches.
