Johnny Hayes spent a good part of his career trying to get the better of Scott Brown before joining up with the hoops skipper in 2017.

Last season at Ibrox the Celtic skipper was singled out for some special treatment but with three more domestic medals added to his collection he had the last laugh.

In December Alfredo Morelos booted Brown ‘in his privates’, Scotty Arfield celebrated in his face at the final whistle before Jon Flanagan elbowed him in the face in full view of Kevin Clancy in the May fixture. The former Liverpool defender picked up a booking.

Already this season there has been stories that Brown was finished, a yard off it, he had lost his edge and there for the taking.

I’m delighted for Scott Brown, he’s still the best midfielder in Scotland by a country mile

The young pretenders were given another runaround today as Brown guided Celtic to victory. Alongside Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie he won the midfield battle as the visitors dominated creating the only chances of note.

Celtic aren’t scheduled to be back at Ibrox until March, the usual noises are likely to be heard before then but only a fool would back against Brown heading across the city to stake another claim towards 9-in-a-row.
