Jeremie Frimpong had the backing of a £100m support network when he was at Manchester City.

Kyle Walker became the most expensive full-back in the world when he moved to City two years ago with Joao Cancelo costing £60m from Juventus when he arrived in the summer.

With that sort of competition ahead of him Frimpong realised that he wouldn’t be seeing first team football any time soon and opted to take the route followed by Jason Denayer and Patrick Roberts to sharpen his skills.

Frimpong has joined Celtic on a permanent basis but sets off on his own with the best possible backing, he told the Daily Record:

Everyone at City helped me. In terms of right-backs, I would speak to Kyle Walker and then when Cancelo came I would speak to him. They would give me some tips and stuff. I had been there since I was young. You want to try to get into the team but they obviously have Kyle and have just bought a new right-back. I thought I was ready for first team so Celtic came and I took the chance because I thought I would have a better chance at Celtic than Manchester City.

After his Betfred Cup debut on Wednesday night Frimpong will be in the mix for a place against Hibs tomorrow.

Hatem Abd Elhamed and Mortitz Bauer have played at right-back in recent weeks but the Israeli is better known as a central defender while Bauer is only on loan for a season from Stoke City.

With a schedule of constant midweek matches through until the end of the year with just one international break Neil Lennon will have to use his squad to the full across three competitions.
