Neil Lennon has played down fears that Boli Bolingoli is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The defender was replaced by Jonny Hayes after 70 minutes of last night’s 1-1 draw with Rennes after suffering a groin strain.

After a roller-coaster start to his Celtic career Bolingoli was outstanding in the 2-0 Glasgow derby success as a new look defence made their mark.

Neil Lennon was able to field the same defence against Rennes as succeeded in the 1-0 win away to Hamilton and shouldn’t have to wait too long to get the former Rapid Vienna man back in contention for a place.

After 1 minute 43 seconds Lennon said:

It’s not too serious, hopefully. He’ll be a major doubt obviously for the weekend and maybe Partick Thistle (in the Betfred Cup on Wednesday). It’s a slight groin strain and he just felt it progressively getting worse. Obviously he didn’t want to have it deteriorate for a concerted period of time. So hopefully he’ll maybe just miss one or two games.

Greg Taylor is in contention with Hayes to start against Kilmarnock on Sunday as Celtic look to extend their 100% start to the SPFL campaign.

With three matches coming up over seven days the Celtic squad will be tested in full but after four games on the road the return to Celtic Park on Sunday will be welcomed by Lennon and his players.
