Neil Lennon has given an extensive injury update on his squad ahead of Thursday’s Europa League opener away to Rennes.

News that Jozo Simunovic has undergone surgery on a long standing knee issue reduces options in central defence but during an interview with Celtic TV the hoops boss also revealed that Mikey Johnston won’t be available for the trip to France:

Nir (Bitton) and Mikey will be more towards the end of the month. No fresh injury worries from the weekend. We’ve just a couple of injured boys in training, Luca Connel picked up a slight thigh strain and Marian (Shved) has a little ankle sprain as well so they’ll be out for Thursday.

Connell has yet to make a competitive appearance this season while Shved has been restricted to a scoring appearance off the bench away to Nomme Kalju.

Starting in Rennes Celtic face four matches in eight days with matches against Kilmarnock, Partick Thistle and Hibs.

After starting the SPFL season with five wins on the bounce Lennon will look to continue that run while making progress in two cup competitions.

No mention was made during the interview about Greg Taylor who failed to make the bench despite his deadline day signing from Kilmarnock. The defender was an unused substitute in Scotland’s matches against Russia and Belgium.
