Neil Lennon was quietly pleased by Mo Elyounoussi’s Celtic debut in the 1-0 win over Hamilton Accies.

The on loan Southampton forward sent in the early cross for James Forrest to score the only goal of the game as Celtic made it five wins out of five in their defence of the SPFL title.

Like the team itself Elyounoussi started off as a whirlwind of activity as Celtic threatened another goal-fest but the early promise failed to deliver as the performance became laboured as they sealed out the win.

The Norwegian was signed on loan between the wins over AIK and the club from Ibrox with Lennon looking forward to working with the former Molde and Basel man.

He told the Celtic website:

I’m delighted with Mo. He made a really good impact, he was nice and composed and set up the goal. It’s a great start for him and I’m delighted for him. He’s had a long time out of the game where he’s been in and out of the Southampton team so hopefully that’ll settle him and he feels part of a really good squad now.

Tom Rogic replaced Elyounoussi in the 67th minute as Lennon discovered two more attacking options as he prepares to take his side into the Europa League.

Thursday’s opponents, Rennes, drew 0-0 away to Brest yesterday to slip two points behind pace-setters Paris Saint Germain at the top of the French table.
