Celtic are facing a mini-crisis in defence with Nir Bitton and Jozo Simunovic unlikely to play this month.

So far this season Neil Lennon has had to change his central defence almost on a game by game basis as illustrated by Sunday’s side at Ibrox.

Without Simunovic and Kris Ajer through injury Lennon started off with Bitton playing alongside Christopher Ajer.

The Israeli picked up an injury midway through the second half which saw Hatem Abd Elhamed switch over into the middle with Moritz Bauer thrown into his debut at right-back.

Giving a breakdown on the injury position Lennon told The Sun:

Nir will be three or four weeks, Ajer will be ten days. We are hoping to have him back for Hamilton. We will need to send Jozo to a specialist.

Elhamed and Jullien look like starting against Hamilton on September 14 with new signing Lee O’Connor possibly coming into contention.

The Europa League opener away to Rennes follows five days later which should see Ajer return to the equation as Lennon gets the chance to work with his squad after a hectic start to the season that featured 13 matches up until September 1.
