Olympic Games threat to Celtic

Odsonne Edouard won’t be part of next season’s European qualifiers for Celtic.

The run of form of the former Paris Saint Germain striker is starting to gather attention with bids virtually certain to arrive in January or next summer when the transfer window opens.

Edouard’s goal burst for the French u-21 side creates a fresh problem that no contract will be able to overcome with France taking place in the Olympic football tournament in Japan from July 22 until August 8.

In June France qualified for the Olympic Games via the European Championships with Edouard in line for promotion to join Moussa Dembele and Olivier Ntcham in Japan.

Outside of the World Cup the Olympics is the biggest international tournament in football with the semi-finalists from the European Championships all qualifying.

Edouard seems certain to be involved in the French squad who will get together at the start of July to prepare for a tilt at Olympic gold.

The striker would be a huge loss for Celtic to plan around, if Scotland can get their act together to win home matches against countries such as Bulgaria or Finland there could be half a dozen Celtic players involved with the group stage matches running from June 12 to 21 with the first round qualifiers starting in the second week of July.
