Last night’s 5-0 win over Partick Thistle was Celtic’s 29th successive cup tie victory.

Strictly speaking, or going to the bookies, Celtic drew against Dunfermline in the previous round of the Betfred Cup but as every player and manager explains the only thing that matters is being in the draw for the next round.

The run started back in August 2016 with a 5-0 win over Motherwell that saw Jamie McCart make his only top team appearance with the goals shared between Tom Rogic, Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele.

That trio of scorers went on to have a massive influence on the side as Celtic beat Aberdeen in both cup finals to complete an invincible treble.

The following season Motherwell provided the opposition in both cup finals as Celtic became the first Scottish side to retain the treble.

Last season saw Celtic head to Murrayfield in the semi-final of the Betfred Cup to beat Hearts, Aberdeen were overcome in the final thanks to a goal from Ryan Christie while the treble was completed under Neil Lennon thanks to two goals from Odsonne Edouard in the final against Hearts back at Hampden.

With Hibs waiting in the semi-final Celtic are strong odds on to reach the final of the Betfred Cup and the chance to extend their winning cup run into 2020.
