Julien Stephan has name-checked four Celtic players ahead of tonight’s Europa League opener.

The Rennes boss predictably claimed that tonight’s opponents were his favourites to qualify from Group E but his detail on the Celtic squad proves that the Frenchman has done his homework.

No defenders were mentioned in his quartet with the early season scoring form of James Forrest and Odsonne Edouard posing the biggest threat to Rennes.

Discussing Celtic Stephan told The Sun:

This is a totally different group from last year for us, and we believe Celtic are a stronger team than the ones we faced. They are used to winning their national championship very regularly – almost every year.

It’s a very big team with lots of experience at our level and they have some international players. They can play in the air but they are very technical as well, with Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie, James Forrest and Odsonne Edouard, just to mention a few.

The four players named are certain to start tonight’s match with just one place up for grabs in Neil Lennon’s side.

Mikey Johnston’s injury creates a vacancy on the left wing that Mo Elyounoussi filled in against Hamilton on Sunday in his first match of the season.

Deciding between starting with the on-loan Southampton man or adding some midfield muscle in the shape of Olivier Ntcham will be the big dilemma for Lennon.
