Chris Sutton has branded the decision to send off Vakoun Bayo against Rennes as shameful.
Referee Jose Maria Sanchez had a clear view of the striker’s contact with Edouard Mendy and ran back towards the centre of the pitch to continue the match.
The Rennes keeper continued to roll around clutching his head as the home fans hurled abuse at Bayo. Sanchez decided to check out the keeper then amazingly decided to issue a second yellow card forcing Celtic to finish the match with ten men.
Can’t appeal as far as I know as it was a second yellow… shameful from the Rennes goalkeeper holding his face… Bayo boot nowhere near his face… https://t.co/hdmmDGFhMX

“That is ridiculous. The ref must have been influenced!”@chris_sutton73 was not convinced as Vakoun Bayo was sent off shortly after coming on as a sub for Celtic…
It certainly does look like the referee changed his mind without consulting his assistant ???? pic.twitter.com/dxEnBMyGYc

Bayo had replaced Odsonne Edouard in the 84th minute and picked up a yellow card for using an elbow just before the 90 minutes were up.
A total of seven minutes of stoppage time were added with Celtic retaining a well deserved point to take in to matchday two at home to group leaders Cluj who won 2-1 at home to Lazio.
Ryan Christie, Scott Brown and Kris Ajer also picked up yellow cards.
