Chris Sutton has laid out FACTS! To calm the hysteria that Ryan Kent is about to end Celtic’s hopes of winning a ninth successive league title.
The hoops were given just 24 hours to savour their derby day success at Ibrox before word emerged that Kent was on his way from Anfield.
After spending the summer bringing in Jake Hastie, Greg Stewart, Brandon Barker and getting Sheyi Ojo it seemed that another winger was hardly required. Especially with Jamie Murphy back to fitness and £3m man Eros Grezda settling in to Glasgow.
Celtic’s 2-0 win at Ibrox sent out a massive title statement with Sutton picking up on one key issue as hysteria broke out over the signing of Kent who scored six times last season and who impressed in two matches against Celtic, one of which was lost and resulted in a two match retrospective ban for punching.
In the Daily Record Sutton explained:
Scott Sinclair appears to have no future at Celtic. Europa League squad or not, the winger has been out in the cold. James Forrest, Mikey Johnston, Lewis Morgan are ahead of him. Marian Shved is there and Neil Lennon has brought in Mohammed Elyouanoussi on loan and he cost Southampton £16million last term.
Sinclair’s chances of getting even a sub outing seem bleak after he had, in the eyes of most folk, a disappointing 2018-19 season. Here’s my point to all of this. Sinclair scored 17 goals last season. Ryan Kent scored six.
The fact that Lennon has five wingers currently ahead of a guy who almost scored three times as many goals as Kent seems to have been lost.
If Celtic continue to develop as they have over the last three weeks it’ll require Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk arriving at Obroc from Anfield to stop the hoops from crushing the hopes across the city.
