Jack Aitchison followed up his goal-scoring debut away to Cambridge with a Man of the Match performance as Forest Green Rovers beat Colchester 1-0 today.

The teenager earned himself a place in the starting XI this week and repaid the confidence shown in him by manager Mark Cooper.

Aitchison moved to the League Two side on transfer deadline day less than a fortnight ago but is already attracting attention as the BBC match report highlighted:

Forest Green moved up to third in the League Two table with their fifth 1-0 win of the season. Colchester captain Luke Prosser’s 31st-minute own goal handed Mark Cooper’s side victory in a game inspired by Rovers’ Celtic loanee Jack Aitchison.

Prosser and goalkeeper Dean Gerken got in a tangle as a James Morton ball into the box clipped Prosser and rolled into the net. Aitchison was pulling the strings. Picking up a pass from Morton he fed Matty Stevens who saw his shot beaten down by Gerken, with Kyle Taylor’s follow-up strike deflected over.

On Tuesday Aitchison almost heads for home with Forest Green playing at Carlisle United.

At the other end of the country Ewan Henderson made his debut on loan at Ross County, playing for 78 minutes in their 2-1 win over St Mirren.

Former Celt Marcus Fraser scored a stoppage time winner for the home side who also included Michael Gardyne and Joe Chalmers in their squad.
