Celtic fans facing Hampden chaos

Celtic fans face traffic chaos getting to Hampden on Saturday with roadworks going on along two of the main routes to the National Stadium.

With close to 100,000 fans visiting Hampden over the weekend it seems bizarre that Glasgow City Council bosses can’t schedule work to reduce inconvenience over the weekend. Whether there will be any workmen around at 7pm on a Saturday is doubtful.

The route through Polmadie is the main one off the M74 S which transports fans to a mile away from the National Stadium. Completing the journey to a parking space in time for a 5.30pm kick off looks challenging.

Last year for this bout of fixtures Celtic had their venue rescheduled from a Sunday early evening kick-off at Hampden to a lunchtime slot at Murrayfield.

Fans were urged to use the train but from 9am onwards it was clear that Scotrail were overwhelmed with fans that had purchased train tickets in advance being turned away from stations as overloaded trains ran through without stopping on route for Edinburgh.
