Nir Bitton is looking to extend his seven year stay with Celtic.

The midfielder was signed by Neil Lennon from Ashdod in August 2013 but is out of contract at the end of this season.

Over the last three seasons he has developed into a back up central defender rather than a midfielder with his display at Ibrox last month virtually flawless.

Bitton is free to sign a pre-contract agreement outside Scotland from January but extending his stay in Glasgow is his preferred choice.

Covering an interview in the Celtic View, The Sun reports him saying: “Every season is important for a football player but, for me, this season is important because I finish my contract at the end of it.

“I obviously want to stay at Celtic for as long as I can. I see my kids speaking English, which makes me very happy, so it’s good for all of us, and as long as it continues, I’ll be happy but, of course, it’s football so you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow, so we’ll see.”

After suffering a hamstring injury during the 2-0 win at Ibrox Bitton is back fully fit and waiting for another opportunity to get into the team.

His versatility makes him a useful squad player for Lennon but it’s difficult to see him playing his way into the team after starting just 34 SPFL matches since the start of the 2016/17 season.
