Nick Hammond is expected to be appointed as Celtic’s full-time Head of Recruitment.

The former West Brom chief has been in place since the start of July with his performance during the summer transfer window generally well received despite Celtic being knocked out of the Champions League at the third qualifying round.

Christopher Jullien was the only player added to the squad when Hammond took over with Boli Bolingoli and Hatem Abd Elhamed quickly added before Moritz Bauer and Mo Elyounoussi came in on loan with Greg Taylor signed up on deadline day.

Despite the departure of Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City in February Lee Congerton hung around until May with Celtic without a recruitment chief until Hammond was brought in to start on July 1.

The Sun reports:

CELTIC look set to name Nick Hammond as their new full-time head of recruitment. The 52-year-old has been helping the Hoops with signing targets on a temporary basis since June. But now SunSport has learned that highly-rated Hammond is on the verge of joining Scotland’s champions on a long-term contract.

After suffering through late recruitment over the last two simmers the pressure will be on Hammond to bring in new faces in January then in June ahead of next season’s UEFA qualifiers.

According to the latest accounts Celtic have got close to £40m sitting in the bank with another season of bumper turnover expected following the £25m transfer of Kieran Tierney to Arsenal.
