Hibs have hit out at the SPFL decision to reduce their ticket allocation for the Betfred Cup semi-final against Celtic.

With ticket sales slow at Easter Road, Celtic have been given two additional batches of tickets which are now on general sale after being offered to Season Ticket holders.

Two years ago at Hampden there were 10,000 empty seats in the Hibs end when the two sides met at the same stage with the SPFL ensuring that there is no repeat.

Today Hibs stated:

Hibernian FC today confirmed that the SPFL has taken a unilateral decision to reduce the club’s ticket allocation for the forthcoming Betfred Cup semi-final against Celtic at Hampden.

The SPFL action was contrary to the Club’s stated desire to retain a section of tickets that would have allowed more Hibs fans to access concession price tickets, including children and OAPs.

Leeann Dempster, Chief Executive, said:” Whilst the Club accepts the need to ensure the best possible attendance at showpiece games, it is our view that it would have been reasonable and practicable for the SPFL to accede to our request to retain a higher number of less expensive tickets. The response has been disappointing and frustrating.

“It’s my view that segregation would not have been an issue for the area we requested, and as it is the decision taken means the vast majority of Hibs fans now wishing to go to the game will have to pay the higher price ticket regardless of their age or status.”

Celtic were initially given the North and East Stands with the South Stand split between the two clubs.

With Paul Heckingbottom having a miserable time of it in second bottom place in the Premiership it seems that fans have decided to watch on telly with Celtic fans getting the bulk of the West Stand.

Celtic fans can buy from the club’s Ticket Office for the November 2 clash at Hampden which kicks off at 5.30pm for BT Sport.
