Respected Italian newspaper La Repubblica has claimed that UEFA will only close part of the North Curve at the Olympico Stadium for Celtic’s visit to Lazio next month.

With a twitter following of 2.9m the report from the Rome based journal will be a relief for the 10,000 Celtic fans that have already made plans for the match.

Lazio are serial offenders for racist actions by their fans with a partial closure in place for the match against Rennes that created the latest charge.

Last night the club issued a statement that warned of legal action against fans that misbehave with La Repubblica going further with their details on the UEFA sanctions under the headline: Racism- UEFA closed half curve north of Lazio in the race with Celtic

Half of the northern curve closed in the game against the Celtic in program at the Olympic stadium on November 7th. It is the sentence of the ‘Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body’ of the Uefa in reference to the behaviours held by some fans during the meeting with Rennes. The sectors 46-47-48 and 49 of the Olympic stadium will be closed, corresponding to the lower half of the north curve.

A hearing had been set for Thursday but that was brought forward to Monday- the day that racism came further into the spotlight following the incidents during the Bulgaria v England match.

An announcement was expected yesterday but that was delayed with La Repubblica publishing their report soon after Lazio had issued their own report.
