Jeremie Frimpong has explained his cosmopolitan background makes him eligible to play for three countries at international football.

The 18-year-old has made a huge impact in two Celtic first team appearances after arriving relatively un-noticed on transfer deadline day.

Holland, Ghana and England could all call on the teenage full-back who spent eight years working his way through the Manchester City Academy.

Celtic fans are mainly interested in the impact that he can make on Neil Lennon’s first team but on a bigger scale the young Celt could have some big choices to make.

Discussing his background, he told The Sun:

I was born in Amsterdam and moved to Manchester when I was seven. My parents are Ghanaian and Dutch. There is interest in me from Ghana, but I want to play for Holland although I won’t write off Ghana.

I could play for England as well. But with Holland, it would be exciting to be a part of that. The Dutch have a lot of young players who are really good. They are building again.

Back in the day they were great and they are keeping it up with young players. I’d love to be a part of it and there’s a pathway as you get chances here at Celtic.

The Dutch language isn’t the easiest to learn. The way they speak is very fast so you’ve just got to listen to what they are saying and look at their lips carefully. My sister speaks it fluently. She’s been teaching me little bits.

Frimpong has did little wrong in his appearances against Partick Thistle and Ross County and could well finish the season as Celtic’s first choice right-back.

Tougher tests will follow but at the age of 18 it’s difficult to detect the rough edges as he links effortlessly with Celtic’s attacking moves and appears solid and assured defensively.

Frimpong wasn’t listed in Celtic’s 25-man Europa League squad but if the hoops reach the knock out stage of the tournament he could be in line for a European debut before this season is out.
