Yesterday afternoon Newcastle United fans discovered a new hero- today Celtic supporters discovered that the midfielders parents donned him in hoops at a very young age!

Mum and Dad Longstaff were at St James’ Park yesterday afternoon to see their family making a telling contribution to the 1-0 win over Manchester United with Matty marking his debut with the only goal of the game.

Big brother Sean was on hand to present his sibling with the Man of the Match award as they were interviewed live on Sky Sports.

After a difficult start to the season Steve Bruce decided after the 5-0 defeat away to Leicester that it was time for Matty to be given his EPL debut.

During the first half he saw a shot strike the bar but in the 72nd minute there was no hard luck tale when his shot from 20 yards out hit the back of the net.

Newcastle hung on to claim all three points with the after match story all about the Longstaff family with an early picture showing baby Matty wearing the most famous strip in football.
