Celtic’s u-21 internationalists haven’t had much to cheer about this week but Manny Perez bucked the trend last night.

On Monday Conor Hazard was sent off playing against Romania, yesterday Lee O’Connor was given his marching orders as Ireland lost 1-0 to Iceland.

Perez scored the sixth goal as the US U-23 side beat Honduras 6-1 in Miami as they prepared for the Olympic Games qualifiers in March which will be staged in Mexico.

The 19-year-old signed for Celtic in January but was instantly sent out on loan to North Carolina who play in the second tier of North American football. In June he returned to Celtic for pre-season training but was unable to play in any of the pre-season friendlies in Switzerland and Austria.

Outside of the UK the Olympic Games is second only to the World Cup Finals with Celtic duo Olivier Ntcham and Odsonne Edourd competing for places in the French side for the Tokyo Olympics in January.
