Chris Sutton believes that if Ryan Christie could be even better if he slows down at times.

The midfielder has become the dominant player in Neil Lennon’s side, linking midfield and attack with a unique combination of energy and skill.

On Thursday night Christie was at his very best as he dragged Celtic back into the Europa League tie against Lazio with an equaliser then presented Christopher Jullien with the winner.

The former Inverness Caley Thistle prospect transforms Celtic from a good team to a great team but Sutton believes that he has one more trick to develop to become even more effective.

In his Daily Record column Sutton explained:

Christie sets a rapid tempo for the team. His work off the ball sets the tone. He closes people down at speed and keeps it going the entire game. That drives others to do the same.

When he has the ball, he has such technique and vision. His little scooped pass for Edouard to volley wide the other night is the sort of invention you love to see.

At times, I actually think he might be better slowing down a bit. Just taking that extra split-second now and again when he has time to do it, but that’ll come the older he gets.

The main thing is Christie gives you goals, he gives you them at big moments now and he also provides assists. His strike against Lazio was his sixth in Europe this season and his delivery for Christopher Jullien to bag the winner was right on the money.

Celtic, minus Christie, take on Aberdeen tomorrow looking to build up Thursday’s dramatic win over Lazio.

Sunday’s match is the second of his two match suspension with St Mirren and Hibs next up for Christie as he stamps his name all over Celtic’s campaign on all fronts.
