For decades Scottish football fans have heard jibes about their pub league from English fans, pundits and experts.
When Celtic stick seven past St Johnstone or six by Ross County there is no prospect of credit, just sneering about the quality of opposition from those looking in from down south. If they can be bothered looking in or commenting.
Last night something strange happened, very strange in the so-called greatest league in the world. The league in which the leaders were eight points clear after eight matches, the glorious English Premier League.

On Thursday night BT Sport viewers thrilled to Celtic’s dramatic Europa League win over Lazio, the following night Sky Sports screened an embarrassing whitewash.
Southampton have been looked on as a model EPL club, providing Liverpool with a stream of players that have played in two Champions League finals.
Last night’s result is unlikely to change any outlooks, Scottish football will still be sneered at but when Robbie Savage or anyone else tries a dig Sutton has some fresh ammunition to hit back with.
