VAR technology will be used at Hampden Park in June but the SFA appear to be in no rush to install the system,.

Hampden will host three group matches and one last 16 tie in the European Championships with all matches being supported by VAR.

The SFA will get various spin-offs and benefits from the fixtures but rather than introduce VAR to benefit domestic matches they seem to prefer operating in the dark ages.

As a story in The Sun this morning explained Bobby Madden and Willie Collum will miss out on lucrative UEFA appointments due to their lack of VAR training while referees in countries such as Malta and Cyprus deal with VAR on a weekly basis.

Installing the technology at 12 SPFL grounds might be expensive, no costings have ever been published, but clubs that aspire to compete in the group stages of next season’s UEFA competitions will have VAR installed at their stadiums.

On November 2 and 3 Hampden will stage semi-final matches in the Betfred Cup with extensive TV coverage from BT Sport, a few more installations could allow VAR to be used ad ensure fewer honest mistakes.

In May the Scottish Cup Final will be hosted by Hampden with no plans for VAR, a month later fans from across Europe will benefit from the technology that is being denied to Scottish clubs and supporters.

Earlier this season Jozo Simunovic served a two match domestic suspension following a VAR decision from a pre-season friendly in Switzerland.
