Loan bhoy Robbie Deas kept Lawrence Shankland out of the headlines last night as Alloan enjoyed a 1-0 win over Dundee United in front of the BBC Scotland cameras.

Last weekend the striker scored a hat-trick against Morton to take his tally for the season to 15 from 12 matches which was followed by a call up into Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad.

Alloa started last night’s match in bottom spot but thanks to a well deserved and well executed goal from Kevin O’Hara in the 18th minute they lifted themselves into seventh place.

It was no smash-and-grab act by Peter Grant’s side who played a quick passing game and were well worth their second league win of the season.

At the back Deas and Andy Graham barely gave Shankland a chance as they closed down space and got the better of almost every 50-50 challenge.

Deas has started all seven Championship matches since he moved on loan to Alloa after spending last season in League Two with Cowdenbeath.

Two weeks ago the 19-year-old was substituted at half-time with Alloa losing 4-0 at home to Ayr United. Last week he was back in the side that earned a 1-1 draw at Dunfermline.

If Deas continues to keep Shankland and others quiet it’ll be hard for Scott Gemmill to keep him out of the Scotland u-21 squad.
