Firstly, the win ensures that Celtic finish in the top two of Europa League Group E with Lazio and Rennes unable to match their 10 point total.
As a very nice side-line it was the first time that Celtic have won on Italian soil. Jock Stein’s side managed goal-less draws in the San Siro against Inter and AC, eight years ago Lennon’s first Celtic side earned a 1-1 draw away to Udinese in the Europa League.
Tonight’s win was a victory for the manager who has complete belief in a young side that was put together in the early weeks of the season and growing in confidence on a game by game basis.
All sorts of records were broken tonight, Celtic won three consecutive group matches for the first time ever as well as qualifying with two matches to spare.
Lennon will now gather his squad together for Sunday’s SPFL match against Motherwell before enjoying a day or two of reflection during the international break.
