Kris Ajer isn’t a January target for Leicester City.

The Celtic defender has been linked with a move to the English side by a couple of Scottish sources with Brendan Rodgers’ side still to replace Harry Maguire.

Johnny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu have formed an impressive partnership in central defence to take Leicester into second place in the EPL with Filip Benkovic unable to earn a place on the bench.

Signing Ajer and sending Benkovic back to Celtic as a sweetener has completed the transfer theory but according to the Daily Record that deal isn’t on the horizon.

Last week Keith Jackson produced some very Rodgers sympathetic pieces after visiting the former Celtic boss and raised the Ajer question while killing off a bizarre rumour that Alfredo Morelos was a target for Leicester.

The Record reports:

There was talk Leicester were targeting a January move for Ajer last month after being previously linked with the Hoops centre-half in the summer. But Record Sport understand there is no substance to this claim.

One player Leicester were keen on acquiring was Callum McGregor as Rodgers tried to reunite with the midfielder in the summer. Rodgers was instrumental in McGregor’s success during his time at Parkhead but Celtic insisted their star player was not for sale. The Scotland international has since penned a new five-year deal at the club.

While the Ajer story is knocked down Rodgers’ interest in McGregor is now on the record.
