Lewis Morgan is a loan target for St Mirren.

The winger joined Celtic in the January 2018 transfer window from the Paisley side but has failed to make much of a breakthrough in-between loan spells at Sunderland and St Mirren.

This season Morgan has started one SPFL Premiership match and made two substitute appearances with Celtic well covered for wingers.

Despite struggling to make an impact at Celtic the 23-year-old has been involved in the Scotland squad for the last two international breaks and is likely to be available in January.

St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin is keen to add goalscoring options to his side with a return for Morgan an obvious and popular option.

Covering Goodwin’s media conference today the Daily Record reports:

The January window is approaching; we’ve been looking at our own squad and looking at different options that are out there. Of course, Lewis would be a player we’d love to get, he’s obviously been here before and been very successful. He’s a quality footballer but at this minute in time he’s not available. We haven’t been told by Celtic that he is and he remains part of their squad.

I wouldn’t hide from the fact that if we could have an opportunity of making that one happen then absolutely, we would. We’ll wait until the window opens and we will have those conversations then.

It’s all well and good speaking to Celtic but the player needs to want to come as well and he’ll have people advising him on that but Lewis is among a number of players that we’re looking at. We need to strengthen again in January, it’s as simple as that.

If Morgan becomes available, Hibs, now managed by former Saints boss Jack Ross, are likely to be interested although relations between the two clubs have thawed since Celtic’s failed attempt to sign John McGinn.

With James Forrest and Moi Elyounoussi as first choice wingers Neil Lennon has Mikey Johnston, Jonny Hayes and Marian Shved as back up with Jeremie Frimpong another option in that area of the park.

Kris Ajer and Ryan Christie both used loan spells at other SPFL clubs to kick-start their Celtic careers with little sign so far that Morgan is poised to make the big breakthrough.
