Double blow for Morelos

Saint Etienne have dropped out of the imaginary race for Alfredo Morelos because the Ibrox club have been too greedy.

Last year Ibrox chief Stewart Robertson told a group of fans in New Zealand that if the Colombian was sold it would be for a fee similar to the £20m that Celtic got from Lyon for Moussa Dembele.

It is almost an all-year round project to talk up interest in Morelos with mystery clubs in China joining others in Turkey, Mexico, Germany and England regularly linked with the striker.

In one article in the Daily Record interest from Aston Villa has been dismissed with another picking up on a French report that St Etienne have ended their interest in the former HJK Helsinki starlet.

The Record reports:

Saint-Etienne have reportedly conceded that a January transfer for Alfredo Morelos is highly unlikely. The Ligue 1 side have been linked with a winter move for the 22-goal Colombian but Rangers are adamant they will not sell.

Saint-Etienne are believed to have scouted the striker on several occasions this season and boss Claude Puel is keen on negotiating a deal. Steven Gerrard, however, has no interest in losing his talisman with the club competing on all fronts domestically and in Europe.

But Le10sport have framed this as Rangers “being greedy” by sticking to their guns over the in-form 23-year-old. They report Saint-Etienne have made little progress in their efforts to sign Morelos and that a summer approach is now more likely.

Since he hasn’t played in a competitive international for Colombia there is no chance of Morelos getting a work permit to play in England.
