Steven Gerrard has claimed that he would turn down a £50m offer for Alfredo Morelos.

With financial reality starting to hit home at Ibrox it seems that the mystical value of the striker is increasing at around £1m a day. By the time that the transfer window opens in January the frenzy is likely to have crashed through the £100m mark.

With a £10m black hole, a bill for ‘many millions of pounds’ to be paid to Sports Direct in January and no more loans from Dave King the size of the monthly wage bill at Ibrox is starting to cause alarm.

Morelos’ wages aren’t much of an issue but with Eros Grezda, Greg Docherty, Andy King, Jamie Murphy, Wes Foderingham, Jordan Jones and Greg Stewart all taking first team wages Gerrard is under instructions to sell in January.

As Mark Allen discovered there isn’t much interest in players like Kyle Lafferty or Graham Dorrans but regardless of the figures Gerrard won’t consider any sort of offer for Morelos.

The Sun reports:

Outgoing Light Blues chairman Dave King vowed the Colombian won’t be sold in January – even if they were offered £40million. King insists the Premiership title is more important than money in the bank.

And Gers boss Gerrard has backed up King’s claim – and has said even £10million more on top of the hefty fee wouldn’t convince him to part with his star man.

Asked if he would accept that kind of offer for the Colombian, Gerrard said: “No. And you can add another £10m on as well.”

With Jermain Defoe injured Morelos is the only striker available to Gerrard for tonight’s match away to Feyenoord.
