For the first time ever, a Scottish club has qualified out of a UEFA group with two matches left to play.
Neil Lennon’s side have still to play Rennes and Cluj but at the start of November the hoops can look forward to European football in February for the third season running.
It was a night of firsts as Celtic enjoyed their first ever win in Italy after 12 previous attempts with Lennon feeling the previous pain of defeats to Juventus and AC Milan as a player and Juventus as a coach.
The opening stages were worrying for the 10,000 Celtic fans at the match but a stunning equaliser from James Forrest in the 37th minute served notice that the hoops weren’t in town to enjoy the sights.
Fraser Forster pulled off some stunning second half saves before deep in added time Odsonne Edouard threaded a pass through to Olivier Ntcham who dinked the ball over the keeper and into the net to seal a famous victory for the hoops in Europe.
