In possibly one of the most contrived transfer stories of the year Celtic have been linked with Vasilis Barkas.

Who is he most Celtic fans are thinking? Barkas is the 25-year-old AEK Athens keeper who played twice against the hoops last season in games that most supporters would rather forget.

Sport Witness have picked up on a report from Greek website SDNA which seems o be relying on a study from HITC- the website that turns the most trivial matter into a transfer story.

It seems that HITC has produced a report into goalkeeping at Celtic but Scott Bain’s new contract has superseded their review. It appears that someone in Greece is keen to cash in on Barkas but Celtic seem to be highly unlikely destination.

Craig Gordon looks as if he won’t be offered a new contract, at 28 Bain has his best years in front of him with Ross Doohan and Conor Hazard both out on loan gaining experience in The Championship.

Then there is Fraser Forster. It’s likely that Celtic will be in talks with Southampton to bring the keeper back for next season, on loan or in a permanent deal if possible.

That will be Neil Lennon’s priority in that position. After signing Forster four times it’s fair to say that the Celtic boss is an admirer.

No doubt Barkas will get a move, when he does it is bound to be branded by some as Celtic losing out on a transfer target.
