Johnny Russell hasn’t given up on his Celtic dream.

The forward has been linked with his bhoyhood side a number of times during the years and made it clear during an appearance on Radio Clyde’s Super Scoreboard that the dream is still alive.

Russell made his name at Dundee United but revealed that bids came in from Celtic in the summer of 2013 before he joined Derby County in a £750,000 deal.

Asked if he could see himself playing for Celtic in the future he said:

You never know, it’s not happened, maybe it won’t but you can always hope. I’ve enjoyed my time over there (Kansas), I’m in no rush to get back but it’s you bhoyhood team, if I came back all my family would get to see me as well. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, I’ve never hidden the fact that I’ve wanted to do that.

Russell spent four years with Derby before moving to Kansas City in the MLS in 2018 and has won back his place in the Scotland squad.

Celtic are expected to be in the market for a striker once the January transfer window opens with Russell under contract with Kansas until the end of 2020.

Should Celtic sign Johnny Russell in January?

With the MLS in off season Russell is back in Scotland although last week he was in Rome to cheer Celtic on to victory over Lazio.
