Image for Lennon clears up on Wanyama speculation

Neil Lennon is completely in the dark about the speculation linking Victor Wanyama with a return to Celtic.

During the summer the hoops boss admitted he was still a fan of the Spurs midfielder but time moves fast in football with Celtic’s midfield the strongest area of the team.

While Scott Brown and Callum McGregor have cemented their places in the team Wanyama has barely featured for Spurs with rumours suggesting that a knee injury has seriously impacted on his game.

After almost a week of talks with Bruges in August a move failed to materialise, in Jose Mourinho’s first two matches in charge of Spurs the powerful midfielder hasn’t made the substitute bench.

It’s easy to put two and two together to get two hundred and twenty two with Lennon opening up about the situation at his media conference to preview tomorrow’s match against Rennes.

I don’t know where the speculation is coming from and that’s what it is at the minute. If a player like Wanyama was to become available, that’s the first thing you have to ask because there is a new manager in at Spurs, we don’t know how Jose Mourinho would see Victor’s role in the club. Two, there is affordability and three, does the player want to come. We’ve not looked at any of that, this is all just speculation surrounding Victor at the minute. I’m very well stocked in midfield; my midfield is performing superbly at the minute.

Wanyama joined Spurs in 2016 and is under contract until 2021.
