Lewis Morgan has played himself out of a January loan move away from Celtic.

In January 2019 he went on loan to Sunderland, 12 months earlier he made a sharp return to St Mirren after his £300,000 transfer.

Hibs and St Mirren have both made noises about taking Morgan on loan in the new year but after his striking role against Rennes in midweek the 23-year-old can look forward to completing the full season at Celtic Park.

The Sun reports:

Asked about the prospect of him (Morgan) moving in the next transfer window, Lennon said: “We’re not in the mood to do that. He is an important part of the squad.

“You can see what he brings at times, he just needs to believe in himself a little bit more and that performance against Rennes will do him the world of good. His goal was fantastic – a striker’s goal really. It was like an Edouard goal — we felt he could bring pace and he is a very fit boy.

“Lewis has proved he’s got the game and can bring something to the squad and the team when called upon. And I hope he gets a lift. We have looked at him in that position in training a few times in case anything did go wrong with Odsonne.”

Morgan has only started one SPFL match this season but looks to have played his way into contention for the busy December schedule which consists of eight matches starting tomorrow in Dingwall.

Odsonne Edouard is expected to miss out again leaving Lennon to select between Morgan and Leigh Griffiths for the striking role.

Morgan is under contract with Celtic until June 2022.
