Around 10,000 fans put up with the warnings and horror stories about the trip to Rome to take their place behind the goal that Celtic attacked in the second half.
A 1-1 draw would have been vey acceptable but the German refereed decided to add on five minutes stoppage time to provide another obstacle.
Undeterred Celtic kept a high line, pushed at the Lazio defence until they made a mistake allowing Odsonne Edouard to set up Olivier Ntcham to clip the ball into the net as the celebrations began for Celtic’s first win in 13 attempts on Italian soil.
